How we assess progress and attainment The National Curriculum has changed and with it the way all schools track attainment and progress: Age Related Expectations (ARE) for each year. Band 3= year 3, Band 4 = year 4, etc Each band is broken into steps ’beginning,’ (B) ‘within’ (W) and ‘secure’ (S) Teachers can further break down each step into two, denoted by ‘+’ eg 4W+ Expectation that generally children make 6 steps progress per year Mastery = more in-depth, investigative work Independent work is the biggest indicator of what children can do SATs will still take place in year 6 Moderation – across the federation, with other schools and the Local Authority
