Topics Covered in Math 1b  Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities  Exponents and Exponential Functions  Quadratic Expressions and Equations  Quadratic Functions and Equations  Radical Functions and Geometry

Topics Covered in Math 1b (cont.)  Rational Functions and Equations  Statistics and Probability

Homework checked daily for effort (all attempted = 3, incomplete = 2 or 1) Bonus homework assigned occasionally for option to work towards a 4 Homework is posted on the website as well as a description of the topic covered in class Tests, Quizzes, Projects – given throughout and graded for: Knowledge & Accuracy – How accurate is the student’s work? Problem Solving – Does the student try different approaches? Does the student make connections to prior knowledge and apply it to new problems? Mathematical Communication – How does the student organize/present work? Can the student explain rationale? Homework and Grading

Students enrolled in High School courses (Math I, Math II, Math III, English I, Biology) will receive a percentage grade each quarter in addition to the 1-4 ratings. The percentage grade is determined using the following process: 1. A rating scale score is determined based on the 1-4 ratings for each category on the report card. The rating scale score is a weighted grade of the following percentages: Academic Performance – 60%, Homework – 20%, Effort – 10%, Behavior – 10%. High School Credit

2. Next the raw score is converted to a percentage grade according to the scale below: –1.0 – % (D) – % (C) –2.25 – % (B-) – % (B) – % (A-) –3.0 – % (A) –3.5 – % (A+) High School Credit (con’t)

3. At the end of the high school course, students will take either an End of Course Exam, North Carolina Final Exam, or a teacher created Final Exam. This exam will count as 25% of the final grade. 4. The final grade will be found using the formula: Average of the four quarter percentage grades * 75% + Final Exam Grade * 25% 5. Students that have a final grade below 70% will not receive high school credit for the course and will be required to repeat the course. High School Credit (con’t)
