The Cathedral The Cathedral The Cathedral of Cagliari, dedicated to St. Mary, is situated in Piazza Palazzo in the historical quarter of Castello. The church was built by the Pisans in the XIII Century in the same place in which there was the church of St. Cecily. It was originally in the Roman-Pisan style but, in 1702, it was modified with baroque elements. Next

The church, built on a cross like shape, has three naves with a trasversal one (transept); the internal area of the main altar (presbytery) is raised and closed in by a marble balustrade. marble balustrademarble balustrade Previous Next

Here are some details of the lions of the balustrade Previous

There are still few elements of the first, original construction, like the bell- tower, transept doors, central door architrave and some sculpture fragments. Most of the ornaments and the internal decorations are in the baroque style. baroque style. Next Previous

There is also an entrance to the crypt, excavated in the rocks, where the presumed relics of martyred Christians were placed. The decorations of the main chapel are very impressive and present 584 different rose windows in baroque style. Previous Our Projects
