Why be concerned about bullying? Bullies are 5 times as likely to become adult criminals as non-bullies. 1 Targets of bullying are more likely to become depressed as adults. 1 Youth who are bullied have significantly higher rates of suicide, depression, PTSD, and substance abuse. 2 The American Justice Department says that this month 1 out of every 4 students will be abused by another youth. 80% of adolescents reported being bullied during their school years 3 Between 1992 and 1999 there were 228 violent deaths at schools. 4 1 Ref: Ross, D.
