Land Spain covers 194,897 square miles. Most of Spain is high plateau surrounded my low coastal plains. Pyrenees mountains are to the north. Ibrian mountains are in central. And the Sierra Nevada mountains in the south. About 62% of the land is forest.

Climate The northern part of Spain has a moderate climate with frequent rain. The southern and eastern have long dry summers, mild winters.

History Spain was first ruled by Visgoths. Columbus found America when he was under the Spanish flag. Spain used to be one of the largest and most powerful empires. Spain began to lose territory and influence in the 18 century. By 1850 most of territory was gone.
