2 WHY LEARN ENGLISH? WHY LEARN SPANISH? WHY LEARN ENGLISH? WHY LEARN SPANISH? Many Spanish-Speaking students choose to learn English, because they know that there are jobs in America or other English-Speaking countries. English is the number 4 spoken language in the world. Why learn Spanish? Many English speaking students choose to learn Spanish for many of the same reasons. Many schools and careers require students to be bilingual.

3 Students in Spain can take all of the same courses that we have in America, and sometimes even more. High school in Spain Spanish Language and Literature: 1st and 2nd years Co-official language (in case of Catalan, Basque and Galician): 1st and 2nd years First foreign language (English, French, German or Italian; mostly English): 1st and 2nd years Philosophy: 1st and 2nd years Physical Education: Only 1st year Spanish History: Only 2nd year Optional subject (2nd foreign language, psychology, information technology...): 1st and 2nd year Catholic Religion/All World Religions Studies: Only 1st year (Optional) The specialist part has up to four subjects (depending on the branch taken). Arts: History of art Volume (sculpture) Colours (painting) Nature and Health Sciences: Biology Chemistry Physics, Earth Sciences or MathematicsEarth Sciences or Mathematics Sciences & Engineering: Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Technical Drawing Social Sciences: Applied Maths, Economics, Geography, World History (only 1st year) Humanities: Latin, Greek, History of Art/World Literature World History (only 1st year)

4 Students in Spain only have to attend school to the age of 16. And children don’t have to attend kindergarten of preschool. After that they can attend a higher schooling until they are 18. This schooling requires a small tuition fee. Classes start at 9 A.M. then continue to 2 o’clock P.M. Then they get an hour for lunch. They serve lunches at school but many go home or go to the local market for lunch. After lunch they go back to school until 5 P.M.
