SHSP INTERSECTION EMPHASIS AREA

Emphasis Area Definition  The term intersection crash is defined as a crash which occurs just before, just after or inside the limits where two or more highways join or cross.

Emphasis Area Goals  To reduce the number of annual roadway intersection fatalities by 10 per year by December 31, 2014  To reduce the number of annual roadway intersection crashes involving incapacitating injuries by 100 per year by December 31, 2014

Intersection Emphasis Area Objectives  To implement cost-effective countermeasures at acceptable deployment levels to achieve the planned reduction in intersection fatalities and incapacitating injury crashes  To advance new strategies and concepts that support reductions in intersection fatalities and incapacitating injuries  Program projects from current year Intersection Emphasis List

CMF – (CMFs for Changing Left Turn Phasing Paper ) Implement Flashing Yellow Arrow where applicable

CMF = 0.85 (CMF Clearinghouse) Implement retroreflective backplates
