This lesson Review what an atom is Know what a molecule is Review what an element and a compound is

Atoms An atom is the smallest particle of an element that has the properties of the element.

Atoms An atom is the smallest particle of an element that has the properties of the element. An atom can be split into smaller parts (electrons, protons and neutrons), but these would not have the properties of the element

Molecules A molecule is 2 or more atoms joined (bonded) together Hydrogen molecule H 2

Element A substance made of one type of atom Oxygen is only made of oxygen atoms (joined together to form oxygen molecules!)

Compound A substance made of more than one type of atom that have joined (bonded) together

Mini-book Mr Porter will show you how to make a mini-book

Mini-book or poster You have to a mini-book explaining the difference between an element and a compound and an atom and a molecule. You are allowed to use a maximum of 8 words (not including the title and your name) You may start now p68 and 69 will help!
