Economics Britian Deep in debt. Factories were out dated Many strikes occured. France Owed huge debt. Recovered faster Relied heavily on German Reparations Germany Reparations crushed economy USA Emerged as leading economic power American loans backed the recovery for Europe Europe Middle class lives improved Recovery was slow

Fiance Germans' were unable to pay the amount decided at the Treaty of Versailles, without getting massive loans from America. American's wanted the loans payed back in gold and Dollars, to increase the value of the already mighty American Dollar. The Stock Market Crahsed in 1929, and inflation quickly followed.

Overproduction Overproduction is a situation in which the production of goods exceeds the need for goods. As demand slowed for the products, prodcuction slowed. Thus resulting in many people losing their jobs. After WW1, the need for raw materials dwindled. With no one buying, no one was being payed.

Workers lost there jobs do to overproduction. In 1929 the stock market crashed, starting the great deppresion. The Great Depression lasted from1929 to The Great Deppression

New Deal New deal was a massive package of economic and social programs. The program was put into action by Franklin Delanor Roosevelt, to help americans during thhe great depression. "of course we may have to change remedies if we dont get results." F.D.R

Federal Reserve Is the central banking system for the United States. To slow the run on the stock market they raised the interest rates. It had adverse affects and made people nervous.

Democracies reaction During the great depression people around the world would try to find ways to alleviate the effects of the depression. Britain made up a coalition goverment made up of all three major political parties, they supplied some unemployment benefits but ultimately failed to help the struggle. I hate the great deppresion!!

British Party Struggles During the 1920s Labour party gained support among workers by promoting a gradual move toward socialism. Liberal party passed some social legistration but it represents middle class. Liberal party faltered, the middle class backed the conservative party joining the upper class professionals and farmers.

Irish Independence In 1916, a small group of Irish nationalists launched a revolt against Britian. This came to be known as the Easter Rising. The IRA began guerrilla warfare against the British government. In 1922 Ireland finaly reached an agreement with british Parliment. They allowed most of Ireland to be self governing.

Peace Agreements The locarno treaties propsed a new era of peace This new pact became known as the Kellogg- Briand Pact Many nations strived for peace and disarmament

Foreign Policy France wanted to keep preasure on Germany. Germany disputed borders with many surrounding countries. Britian, on the other hand, wanted to let up on Gremany.

Foreign Policy Treaties of Locarno The treaties became the new symbol of peace. League of Nations Took an oath to limit agression as well. They wanted to limit aggression and encouraged countries to limit their navy. Later, Germany also joined the Leauge.

France's Troubled Peace Several Parties competed for power. France, like Britian, came out of WWI as both a victor and a loser. A Series of quick changing coalition governments ruled France.

Maginot Line France built fortifications to keep the German forces out of France. They sought to keep the treaty of Versailles alive and encouraged more alliances. Proposed by Andre Maginot

U.S. Isolation "Red Scare" Caused Isolationism The U.S. Feared Radicals, from whom a number were expelled from the U.S. Congress Passed laws limiting immigration from Europe. Eariler laws already limited Chinese and Japanese Immigration.
