Presentation transcript:

Is it important to consider your family if you’re trying to answer the question: ‘Who am I?’ Don’t just think about the people that you live with – Think about other people in your family, people who you might call your ‘ancestors’… …two people finding out more about their ancestors… These people were trying to answer the question: ‘Who do you think you are?’ – How did finding out about their ancestors help them to know more about themselves?

 You will be working in groups to answer some questions.  You’ll have 2 minutes to think of as many ideas/answers/opinions as you can for each question.  You need to write at least 1 thing for each question.  If another group has already written what you were going to write then put a tick next to that comment & then think of something else that you can write.  You need to choose somebody in your group to write (or you could have somebody different for each question).  You also need to choose somebody to be a timekeeper. After the activity… What did we all think?

 In ‘Who do you think you are?’ celebrities researched their ancestors. What things did they do to help them find out more about their ancestors? Your homework task for the next 5 weeks in RE is: Choose one of your ancestors to find out about Your project needs to have all of these headings…  When & where they were born  What their childhood & education was like  How old they were when they started work & what their job was  If they got married – When? Where? Who to?  If they had children – How many? Their names  When they died  An interesting/funny story about them  How does this person help me answer: ‘Who am I?’ You also need to find… A document belonging to the person or a photo of the person or something that belonged to the person.IMPORTANT! The person you find out about cannot be in your parents’ or grandparents’ generation. You will need to interview people (probably your grandparents) to find this information out – Why might you need to be sensitive?Presentation… Your project can be written or typed & stapled together as a booklet – it also needs a front cover.

After today’s lesson, do you think that knowing more about our families & our ancestors can help us to give a better answer to the question: ‘Who am I?’
