Fathers Spending Time Where It Counts Parenting Meeting-Donuts for Dads Clark Elementary School Guest Speaker-Rev. Gary A. Crum 02/10/10

Problem Over 25 million children live apart from their biological fathers. (That’s about 1 out of every 3 (33.33%) children in America. 6.1 million grandparents whose grandchildren younger than 18 lives with them. The nation’s prisons held approximately 744,200 fathers and 65,600 mothers(2007). 14 million single parents in the United States today, and those parents are responsible for raising 21.1 million children (approximately 26% of children under 21 in the U.S today).

Problem Nearly 2 in 3 (65%) African American children live in father-absent homes. Fatherless children are twice as likely to drop out of school. Dropouts are more than eight times as likely to be in jail or prison as high school graduates. 70% of State prison inmates did not receive a high school diploma.

Problem Less than 50 % of the college population is male. Only 3 out of 100 Black males entering kindergarten will graduate from college. The majority of special education students in the U.S. are boys. Most of the discipline problems in schools are attributed to boys. According to some figures, boys comprise 80 percent of all high school dropouts.
