Welcome, to our community meeting.

Tonight’s Agenda: 6:00 -6:30 PM Introductions and Power Point in the gym. 6:30 – 7:15 Group Breakout rooms. (There are 4 breakout rooms each with a facilitator and large pads of paper.) Please share your ideas and thoughtful concerns so that we can use them to assist us in this process. 7:15-7:30 Group facilitators will give very short summaries to the whole group back in the gym.

Definitions: Co-op: Is the contractual agreement to share resources while still maintaining separate school districts and identities. Advantages: Both schools keep their funding sources which allow for more opportunities. Both schools retain local control through independent school boards. It allows more opportunities for enhanced classes, educational discussions, and a better Jr High environment. Consolidation: Is the combining of two or more districts into one by way of a vote by both communities. Disadvantages: The new district would loose the small school funding now enjoyed by both districts. There would be less academic opportunities for enhanced classes. There would be less representation as there would only be one board of 5 people. The proposal that we are discussing is a co-op. The funding aspect is neutral at this point. We believe that there may be some savings through reduction of duplicated services. The important part is that we will see increased academic opportunities with no significant additional costs.

Wilbur Creston Co-op Mission Statement: Our mission is to effectively co-op the Wilbur and Creston School Districts to provide more academic and extra-curricular opportunities for each and every student in grades Through this equal partnership both districts seek to empower and inspire students to reach his or her full academic, social, emotional, and physical potential.

Report Card for Both Districts: Financially: Both Districts have a prudent cash reserve Student Population: Creston 88 and Wilbur 284 Academic Success: Both Districts are multiple recipients of School of Distinction Awards Long Term Bonds: Both districts have paid off all long term capital bonds.
