To give 5 facts about the Qu’ran To describe the type of writing that the Qur’an contains.(L3-4) To reflect on why Muslims treat the Qu’ran with respect (L5-7) The Qu’ran

Moses and Jesus are mentioned more often than Muhammad. It is made up of the messages Mohammad received from the angel Jibril for 22 years. Verses written in Mecca are mostly about Allah’s uniqueness: TAWHID. Verses that were written in Medina give LAWS about how Muslims must live written down in Arabic 20 years after Muhammad’s death - only one version was allowed. Any other versions were burned. Written as poetry, in verses (=Surah). There is no story line – no real beginning, middle or end. The Qu’ran is not written in the same order in which the messages were given. It is memorized from cover-to-cover in Arabic by millions of people, even if they don’t speak Arabic The Qu’ran must not be changed. Translated versions are not a “proper” Qu’ran. Qu’ran means “the collection” All About the Qu’ran Draw an image of the Qu’ran. Choose 7 facts and add them around your drawing. **Which facts are the most surprising ? Why ? It is made up of 30chapters, written either in Mecca or Medina. It is considered a “miraculous” book, the like of which no human being could ever write

True or False ? 1.Written in Hebrew 2.Only Arabic versions are the real Qu’ran 3.Dictated by Allah 4.written in poetry 5.written in the order Muhammad* heard it in. 6.Moses and Jesus are not mentioned very often 7.There are many different versions of the Qu’ran Cave where Mohammed received his first message

1.about Allah being Tawhid (one, unique) 2.Laws about how to live 3.about the end times/ Last Judgement 4.Words and stories about Bible prophets eg Jesus, Moses 5.Descriptions of what happened during Muhammad’s life 6.Criticisms of Jewish and Christian beliefs 1.Explain what the 2 most important topics in the Qu’ran might be 2.Explain why these 2 topics would be important to a Muslim 3. What do you think explains the fact that the same stories as are in the Bible are found in the Qu’ran? **Why is there is more in the Qu’ran about Moses and Jesus than Muhammad himself? What do you think the angel’s messages were about? The bible was written about 500 years before Muhammad was born.If Muhammad* was a trader before he heard the angel’s messages, he may have heard these stories from talking to many Christians and Jews, rather than directly from an angel. Muslims disagree. They say that the Angel Jibril told Muhammad the correct version of all that really happened over these thousands of years. Also that Muhammed* “met” Jesus and the other prophets in vision-meetings with them, and they told him the “truth” of what the Bible really says.

Inappropriate treatment of the Qu’ran by US forces is angering Muslims and inciting them to violence against US troops in Afghanistan.

Ø Muslims must wash before touching a Qu’ran. Ø Qur’ans must not be taken to toilet areas. Ø Always hold a Qur’an above the lap or waist. Ø Cover with a dustcover when not in use. Ø Muslims will keep Qur’an texts on the highest bookcase shelf. Ø Place nothing on top of the Qur’an. Ø Keep the Qur’ans off the floor. Ø Muslims hands Qu’ran touching must before a wash Ø the top of nothing Qur’an on place Ø Keep off floor Qur’ans the the. Ø to areas must Qur’ans toilet be taken not Ø waist hold a Qur’an lap the or above always Ø use with cover a when in dustcover not. Ø on highest Qur’an bookcase shelf the keep. 1. Unscramble the Rules about Handling a Qu’ran for Troops. Write them out. **Why do you think Muslims show so much respect for the Qu’ran ? 2. Illustrate your “Etiquette” with arabic writing !

One thing you learnt about How to handle the Qu’ran What kind of writing it contains Two other facts about it How it was written
