Lesson 3: Regrouping in Addition Ms. Jamie Scordino 3 rd Grade Math

Base Ten Blocks Hundred Thousand Ten One

Base Ten Blocks 10 ones = 1 ten 10 tens = 1 hundred

Base Ten Blocks 10 hundreds = 1 thousand

This is the number 57 Tens Ones

This is the number 1,325 HundredsThousands Tens Ones

Base Ten Blocks Show Addition + = = 54

Base Ten Blocks Show Addition + = = 7 tens 12 ones We can’t have 12 ones in the ones place.

Base Ten Blocks Show Addition + = = 82 We can take 10 ones and make them into one ten.

In Math We Show This As: = 12, but we can’t have more than 9 in the ones place So, we regroup. We take 10 ones and make one ten and carry that ten to the tens place.
