Lesson 49: Division Facts 0-5 Ms. Jamie Scordino 3 rd Grade Math

Multiplication Table We learned that a multiplication table can tell us multiplication facts like 7 * 5 = 35. Today we will learn that it also tells us division facts. Examples: 42 / 6 = 7 35 / 7 = 5 90 / 9 = 10

How to Use a Multiplication Table DOWNDOWN ACROSS

How to Use a Division Table UPUP ACROSS

Key Vocabulary In a division problem, the number being divided is called the dividend. The number that the dividend is being divided by is called the divisor. The answer to the problem is called the quotient. 54 / 6 = 9 Dividend Divisor Quotient

Division by Zero A number CANNOT be divided by zero at any time. That means zero cannot be the divisor. Example: 6 / 0 CANNOT be completed. However, zero can be the dividend. When this happens the answer is ALWAYS zero. Example: 0 / 8 = 0

Division by Zero

Division by 1 Any number divided by 1 will give back the same number as the quotient. Examples: 6 / 1 = 6 38 / 1 = 38 1,295 / 1 = 1,295

Division by 1

Practicing Division Facts Once you know your multiplication facts, division is just the opposite. Today, you will continue to work with your math fact triangles. Instead of covering up the top number, you will cover up one of the two bottom numbers.

Your Turn Thank you for a great lesson!
