Presentation transcript:

ICE BREAKER: If you look at prominent leaders – like Obama, Putin, the Queen of England, Kim Jong Un – in the world today, do you feel they would rather be “loved” or “feared?” Why? Explain.

MACHIAVELLI: Observing politics and government “as they are practiced…”

Essential Ideas Political success is not based on what one is supposed to do but rather on what one needs to attain and use power. It is much safer for a prince to be feared rather than loved.

Key Question Should an opportunity be lost for the principles of morality and righteousness, or should it be taken advantage of with clear manipulation?

TASK: FOR TOMORROW, PLEASE BRING IN AN ARTICLE THAT DEMONSTRATES AN EXAMPLE OF A “MACHIAVELLIAN” LEADER. BE PREPARED TO EXPLAIN WHY HE OR SHE IS “MACHIAVELLIAN.”
