What Units would you use to measure the following? A cell in your body An ant Cell Phone Desk Person Distance from here to Dubai Distance from Earth to Mars Distance from the Earth to the Sun Distance from here to the closest star in our galaxy

Distance Between Planets: om/watch?v=97Ob0xR0 Ut8 om/watch?v=97Ob0xR0 Ut8 Can you name the planets in order from the sun?

Fun Facts The Sun is 152,000,000 Km from Earth 152,000,000 = 1 Astronomical Unit (AU) 1 light year equals 63,000 AU How many Kilometers are in one light year? Km Distance to our closest star is 4.3 light years Travelling at 40,000 Km per hour it would take 100,000 years to get there

Convert the Following: 1.Convert 5 yd to feet and inches Answer: 15 ft and 180 in 2. Convert 51 inches into Feet and Inches Answer: 4 ft and 3 in

Example 1 Anne is framing a picture and the perimeter of the framed picture is 136 in. (a)What will the perimeter be in feet and inches? (b)The framing material costs $1.89/ft how much will it cost

Solution: (a)136 ft  11 4  136in = 11ft 4in (b) C = 12(1.89$) C = 22.68$

Section 1.4 Surface Area of Pyramids and Cones

A Right Pyramid: A 3D object that has triangular faces and a base that is a polygon. The shape of the base determines the name of the pyramid. The top of the pyramid is called the APEX

Type #1: Regular Tetrahedron A triangular pyramid with 4 congruent equilateral triangular sides

Type #2: Right Square Pyramid The base is a square and the triangle sides are all congruent

Type #3: Right Pentagonal Pyramid The base has 5 sides and the triangles are all congruent

Surface Area of a Regular Tetrahedron Formula: Area = ½(base)(height) A = 1/2bh Calculate the SA of the ENTIRE pyramid

Surface Area of a Square Pyramid Formula: A = 1/2bh A = l x w Calculate the surface area of the entire pyramid

Surface Area of a Rectangular Pyramid Formulas: A = l x w A 1/2bh

Assignment: Page 34: #’s 4, 5, 9, 10, 13, 18 Create your own notes on how to find the surface area of a cone. Use your textbook or the internet. Come up with notes, a formula, and an example. I may call on you to teach the class tomorrow
