What is a CV?  From Latin- Curriculum Vitae  Marketing tool for yourself.  Should highlight (not exhaustive list) things that a potential employer would find interesting about you.  Attracts attention.  Creates a good impression.

Personal details (contact details) Your Contact Information Name Address Telephone Cell Phone Personal Information Date of Birth Place of Birth Nationality Gender Optional Personal Information Marital Status Children

Personal Statement You should also include at least two positive professional qualities. Examples: I am a hardworking, motivated person. I am very flexible. I can work within Team. I can work under pressure.

Personal Statement You should also include the highest qualification you have, related to the job you ’ re applying for. Example: I have a good experience in IT, so I am very comfortable when required to work with computers.

Personal Statement You should also include the most relevant work experience you have related to the job you ’ re applying for Example: I have lots of customer service experience, so I am very comfortable dealing with members of the public.

The first part of your CV should look something like this…

Work experience Work History (internship, etc). Academic Positions and Research. List in chronological order, include position details and dates. Only list relevant jobs, not everything you did.

Work Experience Usually start with the most recent However, if you have experience related to the job you are applying for that is more relevant, you could start with that. It often helps to put them in a table Name of Establishment(company) Period of employment Overview of Duties South Devon College Sainsburys Jan-June2007 Aug-Dec2006 Answered the phone, dealt with customers, worked with a database, wrote letters, made appointments for students Worked as part of a team

Educational information University (bachelor, master) Include dates Details of degrees courses only if it International Certificate.

Interests On one line list a few things you like to do in your spare time. This shows that you have other interests and suggests things about your character. For example you can write down English articles, discovering the internet perfectly.

The rest of your CV should look something like this…

CV versus Resume?  CV - Individually designed summary of personal, educational and experience qualifications (as well as Application Form)  Resume - Written advertisement about your skills, abilities and accomplishments.  NB! Both require covering letter!

Preliminary Guidelines: Make your font somewhere between size 10 and size 12. Use a standard font (Times New Roman or Courier New) Put similar information in like font. (Ex. Dates in Bold, Underline, but the Details of date will became normal And the rest will be like the previous.) Align types of information in Columns so that the recruiters eye can scan quickly.

Golden Rules Use professional lay out. Take time to check - it must be 100% error free Make your CV 2 pages or 3 Pages at most. Space your information for easy reading. Professional CV s Does not have a Picture.
