Historical Time Period Tyler Steinmetz “Woods Runner” By: Gary Paulson

Evidence On page 14, paragraph 1, Paulson wrote, “In the year 1776, messages took much longer to reach someone.” After doing research on the topic, I found that the author was very accurate in this matter. On page 15, paragraph 1, Samuel says, “The battle had happened only months before in April of 1775.” After looking the date up, I found that he is most likely describing the battles at Lexington and Concord, which were the first engagements in the Revolutionary War.

Evidence On page 16, paragraph 3, Samuel hears his father say, “Just some trouble in Boston, a riot or like.” In the year 1776, there were several riots in Boston, which eventually lead to the Boston Massacre. On page 23, paragraph 3, the author says, “The Brown Bess musket was typically issued to the British soldiers.” The rifle he described was only issued to the British military until 1776.

Evidence On page 34, paragraph 7, Samuel explains what the Native Americans have done, “As I followed them, they burned down the next village they came to.” During the Revolutionary war, many villages were destroyed due to the Native Americans, because they were hired by the British. On page 55, paragraph 12, Cooper says, “There be a feller named Morgan who just started Morgan’s Rifles.” Morgan’s Rifles was a military company founded in the spring of 1775 by Daniel Morgan.

Evidence On page 68, paragraph 5, Samuel says, “We must careful in New York, I hear the British just captured it.” The British Military captured New York in September of On page 78, paragraph 1, Samuel says, “By the end of 1775, there were thousands of prisoners in New York.” In 1775, there were almost 4,000 prisoners in New York

Evidence On page 92, paragraph 4, Samuel says, “We’re heading to Philadelphia, it’s under American control now.” The Americans gained Philadelphia in On page 106, paragraph 9, Abner tells Samuel, “You must be careful. The British have set up a perimeter around Philadelphia, in an attempt to capture it.” The British began attempting to claim Philadelphia in 1776.
