Francisco Coronado

Moctezuma II
The Aztec ruler following Moctezuma II, he was captured and killed when the Spanish closed off all entrances to the city, so no food or water could reach the Aztec defenders
Cuauhtemoc
Leader of the Inca. He promised to fill his prison cell with gold if Pizarro would release him. He did his part, but Pizarro killed him anyway.
Atahualpa
This African slave escaped and was chased for 30 years, but never recaptured. He set up the city of San Lorenzo de los Negros.
Yanga
Also known as Malinche, she convinced many Indians to join Cortes to challenge the Aztec.
Dona Marina
This was a system where new colonists where given a large area of land that included Indian villages

Native Americans in the encomienda system worked for free, but the colonists had to promise to do these four things for them
