Spanish Conquest and Settlements Aztec Empire - 508 soldiers, 100 sailors, 16 horses and guns vs. thousands of Aztec soldiers Made allies with the other tribes that were enemies of the Aztecs – Malintzin Moctezuma II thought Cortes was a god and Moctezuma welcomed him. This allowed Cortes to take Moctezuma prisoner. Cortez killed Moctezuma II and destroyed the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan. The Spaniards brought diseases like small pox that the Aztecs were not immune to. This killed many of the Aztecs. Inca Empire Francisco Pizzaro looked for the Incas in South America to conquer their large territory. Pizzaro had fewer than 400 men but they had better weapons – guns and swords The Inca had more people but did not have the same type of weapons Pizarro and his men killed the Inca leaders.
