UNINOT TEAM AND ASSOCIATES Research team at UNINOT –Jack Rieley, Martin Stahlhut, Roy Haines-Young UNPAR staff training at UNINOT –Adia jaya, Yustinus Sulistiyanto, Darmae Nasir, Yulintine Research facilities at UNPAR -CIMTROP, NAMTROP, DARHERB Allied projects –OUTROP, biodiversity and orang utan population studies –Raphael Wuest, Dominik Weiss, peat accumulation rates and geochemistry

Gap analysis –Ecology –Hydrology –Restoration Databases –Literature –Biophysical –Remote sensing and GIS Communication –Networking –Newsletter –Web site Training –Ph.D.: natural resources and sustainable livelihoods –M.Sc.: environmental management Sustainable development –Central Kalimantan forum Information dissemination –Conferences and Workshops –papers ACHIEVEMENTS

ALLIED PROJECTS British Council funded link between the universities of Nottingham, Leicester and Palangka Raya to develop postgraduate and short, continuing education courses at UNPAR Global Peatland Initiative funding to promote new approaches to sustainable development of peatland in Central Kalimantan, including Biorights, carbon credits and green energy

Some partners have still not transferred their biophysical and socio-economic data to UNINOT for inclusion in the interactive database Heightened tension caused by current political instability in the Middle East has already led to the cancellation of Jack Rieley’s planned visit to UNPAR at the end of March and could limit activities planned to take place in Southeast Asia during the second half of 2003 PROBLEMS

Literature database –Copy the database on CD to partners for testing –Invite partners to provide further references Biophysical database –Obtain remaining data from partners Remote sensing and GIS –Obtain copies of all remote sensed images and derived maps Research –Complete field research on peat carbon store and nutrient dynamics –Continue field research on sustainable livelihoods FUTURE PLANS

Communications –Produce newsletters on website every 2 months – require information from partners –Extend network –Upgrade website Training –Continue and complete postgraduate training Sustainable development –Promote further meetings of the ‘forum’ in Kalteng Information dissemination –Continue to present at conferences and workshops and publish in scientific journals FUTURE PLANS
