TOMORROW is the ELA TAKS Test!!! Here are a few tips to help you out!

Before the Test…  Review all methods and tips taught by your teachers.  Get at least 7 to 8 HOURS of SLEEP tonight!!!

Before the Test…  Review all methods and tips taught by your teachers.  Get at least 7 to 8 HOURS of SLEEP tonight!!!  Eat a GOOD BREAKFAST tomorrow morning!  Take a DEEP BREATH before entering the classroom. Tell yourself YOU WILL DO WELL because you are prepared!

During the Test…  Relax! Take slow deep breaths if you need to calm yourself.  Look over the ENTIRE test first.  Read all directions carefully before taking the test.  Answer questions you know first. Circle questions you can’t answer; answer them last.  Make a special effort to be neat and clearly mark your answers.  If you have extra time, go back and check your answers.  Your first response is probably your best response. Do not change an answer unless you have a good reason to do so.

Multiple Choice Sections…  Make educated guesses. –If you can eliminate one or two of the choices, guessing will be more profitable.  If the question is confusing, look at the answers. They often explain the questions.  Fill in answers on machine-scored tests accurately and carefully.

Open Ended Questions…  Look over all the questions before you answer them.  Underline key words in the questions, especially those that indicate how the teacher wants the question to be answered. –Analyze… Compare… List… Explain… Summarize…  Don’t forget to use…

A.P.E.!!! Answer the question! Answer the question! –Use the question as your guide! Prove it! Prove it! –Give evidence from the text to prove your answer. Explain or Elaborate! Explain or Elaborate! –Explain your answer and evidence, or –Elaborate by connecting to a similar event in your own life (or someone you know).

After the Test…  Read a Book or Magazine!  Stay Quiet! –Give your peers time to work to the best of their abilities!  Do NOT discuss the contents of the test with anyone else!!!
