CHRISTMAS IN SPAIN

THE WEATHER AT CRISTMAS Here in Spain, at Christmas the weather is very cold, but it doesn´t snow very often. Trees don´t have leaves, most of them are on the floor, and the children usually take some leaves to decorate their houses.

THE WEATHER IN CHRISTMAS Some years ago, it snowed and my sister, all my neighbors and I made a snow man. This is our snow man, we had a lot of fun when we made it, because it was the first time I saw snowing.

TYPICAL DECORATION We usually decorate our houses with the Christmas tree or with a “Belen” I don´t know if you know what a Belen is so I´ll explain. A Belen is a group of the Christ Birth figures. My family’s Belen is very small, but there are families that made very big Belens that people can visit.

TYPICAL FOOD We eat some candy like mazapán, bombones, marquesitas or turrón. Supermarkets start to sell candy two months before Christmas. We eat lamb, seafood …. too.

These are some candy food. MARQUESITAS BOMBONES MAZAPÁN BOMBONES

STREET DECORATION In town and cities there are lights to decorate, there are Christmas trees too. Streets at Christmas are very beatiful and a lot of people go out to do some Christmas shopping.

In my house, on the 24 th December my mother decorates the table with some tablecloth. After having dinner my family and me sing villancicos while my sister plays the guitar.

Last year my choir and I sang in the street to have fun and to celebrate Christmas. We were very happy and had a lot of fun.

31st December The last day of the year, in Spain, we have dinner with our families and that is the most important day at Christmas. At 12 o´clock we eat 12 grapes to celebrate the new year. Then a lot of people go out to celebrate the new year with their friends.

THE THREE KINGS In Spain, the most important party for children is the 6th January when the Three Kings bring us presents. The 5th January in the streets there is a parade where the kings throw some candy and the children pick it up.
