In Spain, there are two traditions typical of the Christian world, making a special family dinner, and going to church to pray at midnight called: “ misa del gallo” All houses are adorned with wreaths, Christmas trees and nativity scenes. Sometimes, Santa Claus visits the children, to give them gifts, but this custom is not as popular as in other countries. This party has its roots in a very sad event, although today the custom is to make some joke to friends or relatives to laugh and play with people. This day is actually the anniversary of the murder of many children in Judea by Herod People often put a paper doll in the form of a joke on the back of their friends. They also, make jokes at work since it is not a holiday. 12 12

The celebrations of December 31, or New Year's Eve, are an impressive spectacle. In all the squares of the Spanish cities, the protagonists are the grapes and the bells. When the clock strikes 12, church bells ring 12 times and all Spaniards eat 12 grapes, one for each bell. According to tradition, those who eat the grapes will have 12 months of prosperity and luck during the following year. 13 13

15 6th of January, Epiphany day
At the end of these holidays comes the day dedicated to children. On January 6 or Three Wise Men's Day, it is the day the children receive the gifts they have been waiting for during the entire vacation. The previous day (January 5) in the afternoon they will see the Cavalcade of the three Wise kings, to greet the Kings who walk in the streets throwing candy and gifts to the children. Then, before going to bed, the children leave their shoes in a very visible place of the house, and retire to sleep early with the illusion of waking up and discovering the gifts that Melchor, Gaspar, and Baltasar , ( the name of the three Wise kings) , have left for them. If you have been bad, the Kings bring you coal!!! 15
