Advent What is it all about?
Advent means ‘the coming’ of something. Christians have FOUR Sundays to get ready to celebrate Jesus’ birth. The first Sunday of Advent is the beginning of the Christian Church's year.
Why have an Advent Wreath? The wreath is a circle. Why? To show that God’s love goes on. It is green. Why? To show new hope. The four outer candles are for? The four Sundays of Advent
Advent is the season of preparation for Christmas Over the next few weeks we will make time to prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus And think about what that means for us
Every day there are things we wait for Think of what some of them are…
The bus.
the bell to begin and end a class
Lunch
Some things can be really worth waiting for
Your Birthday
And all the presents
And then there are more important things worth waiting for
The four traditional advent themes The Candle of HOPE The Candle of PEACE The Candle of LOVE The Candle of JOY A fifth candle is sometimes lit in the middle to celebrate the birth of Jesus
How dark outside! but see -- a star's in the sky; Mary and Joseph are passing by. So let's light a candle to welcome them as they go on their way to Bethlehem. We'll light one candle each week and pray.
Advent Prayer. Advent is a time for us to think about Christmas. It's a time for getting ready and an exciting time too. Help us to find ways to be good and help others just like Jesus did. Amen.
We light the first candle of Advent – the candle of hope
What do we think Our Lord’s greatest hope would be today:
Go in peace to make Peace Who do you need to make peace with today? How can you do that ?
How can we spread peace today? By spreading happiness
How can we spread peace today? By laughing more
How can we spread peace today? By sharing your things
How can we spread peace today? By giving hugs
How can we spread peace today? By opening our hearts to everybody
How can we spread peace today? By spreading love
