Presentation transcript:

G-d: wanted to increase the influence of Christianity around the world Gold: wanted to increase their “wealth” (wealth = gold, spices, silk, slaves, etc.) Glory: wanted to increase their “glory”/land/fame (more land = more power and control in the world)

Improved technology and inventions Cartographers (map- makers) – created more accurate maps and sea charts Sailors also learned to use the astrolabe (an instrument used to determine their latitude at sea)

Developed larger and better ships such as the caravel A caravel made it easier to sail across or even into the wind because it had square and triangular sails Cannons were also added for defense against pirates

NAME A TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION AND DESCRIBE HOW IT HELPED INCREASE EUROPEAN EXPLORATION

God, Gold, and Glory = POWER Power is very important; “he” who has the power, makes the rules…and the $$$ God = more followers (faith domination) Gold = more money, wealth Glory = more land, bigger empire/nation

Colonization: when a nation establishes a colony or colonies (usually involves domination/complete control of political, religion, economical, social aspects of a foreign land) Why would European nations want to establish more colonies? More citizens = more $ (more tax payers) More goods = more trading = more gold, spices and other goods from other parts of the world MORE POWER/CONTROL (DOMINATION)

DOES THIS (EXPLORATION, COLONIZATION, DOMINATION) STILL OCCUR? REAL WORLD EXAMPLE???

+ =Trade and interaction among various cultures increases (exchange of goods and ideas increases) - = European exploration leads to colonization and domination of non-European lands (well, + for Europeans) - = Native culture disappears as European culture takes its place (whether forced or voluntary cultural diffusion takes place) - = Diseases spread across continents (many deaths)

leads to: Exploration Colonization Domination G-d Gold Glory Desire for: “3 G’s”
