Introduction What if John the Baptist came and preached to us today? –Would people listen? –Who needs to repent?

John the Baptist Faithfully prepared the people to trust in Christ –Some repented Others trusted only in themselves –What about people who think they are righteous because they come to church? King Herod didn’t like John’s message –It rebuked him –Herod put him in prison and killed him

Jesus’ message Mark 1:14-15 –John’s ministry was complete –Jesus began telling people to change their attitudes Hebrews 11:6 –Why was Abel accepted by God? Noah? Abraham? Moses? –Acceptance by God is through faith alone Gospel = good news –Leave Satan’s kingdom for God’s kingdom

Jesus called men to assist Him Mark 1:16-20 Jesus called fishermen “Fishers of men” –Bring men to God by telling them the Good News

Jesus taught with authority Mark 1:21 –Synagogues – special places like churches where the Jewish people met –Only met in temple for special feasts Mark 1:22 –Surprised by His authority –Scribes knew but didn’t really believe God’s Word –Scribes didn’t really understand God’s Word –Jesus is God – knew the Word very well

Jesus cast out evil spirits Mark 1:23-24 –Demons rebelled long ago –They know Jesus is God –Demons know Jesus has power over them Mark 1:25-26 –Jesus didn’t want demons to be the ones telling the truth about Him Mark 1:27-28 –Jesus showed again His authority
