4 Jews want to rebel Look for an anointed (sent by God) king (Messiah) to lead them in revolt against Roman authority Jewish rebels are called Zealots

5 Jesus Christ Jesus = Latin form of Greek translation of Hebrew name Y’shua Christ = Greek word for “the anointed one”. In Hebrew it means “Messiah”

6 The Annunciation The Archangel Gabriel visits Mary (also referred to as Madonna) and informs her that she is going to give birth to the Son of God Also tells her that her cousin, Elizabeth is 6 months pregnant

7 Caesar Augustus A census is taken of the territory controlled by Herod Joseph and Mary undergo a journey to Bethlehem to register

8 Mary Lives in Nazareth in Galilee Betrothed wife of Joseph from Bethlehem also part of Galilee

10 Back to the journey to Jerusalem.. On the way to Jerusalem Mary goes into labor With so many people traveling there is no rooms to be rented so they stay in a manger with animals

11 The Nativity Jesus is born around 4 BC An angel shows up to local shepherds to announce that the son of God has been born and they travel to visit him bearing gifts

12 The Presentation Mary as do all Jewish mothers brings Jesus to the temple after 7 days to have him circumcised and named

13 Jesus the child Is taught to be a mason (carpenter) like his father (an artisan) He is raised in Galilee He is raised Jewish

14 Passover Jesus and his family travel to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover Jesus becomes lost in the crowd He is found preaching and teaching in the temple

15 John the Baptist A prophet in Judea Preaches the coming of the Son of God and the end of the world Baptizes many Jews to prepare for the arrival of the Son of God

16 The Baptism Jesus goes to Judea around the year 26 Jesus is baptized by John John recognizes him as the Son of God

17 40 Days Jesus goes alone into the desert for 40 days to meditate and battle demons Is tempted by Satan but refuses to yield to him

18 The Summer of 27 King Herod Antipas (son of Herod the Great) arrests John the Baptist Believes he and his followers are a potential threat Jesus returns to Galilee

19 Jesus begins to Preach The Jewish priests do not accept Jesus or his preaching and threaten to kill him Jesus leaves and begins to attract followers

20 The Apostles Apostle means “messenger” or “envoy” Jesus has 12 apostles

21 The Twelve Apostles Simon Andrew James John Philip Bartholomew Thomas James (of Alphaeus) Matthew Simon (of Canaanite) Judas Iscariot Judas the Zealot

22 Jesus tries again Preaches in a temple in Galilee Performs an exorcism Numerous sick and possessed come to him He cures and heals them all His reputation begins to spread
