How do I identify Gerunds?

How would I use a Gerund?  As the subject of the sentences. Swimming is a good exercise.  As the object of the verbs: enjoy, quit/give up, appreciate, mind, finish, avoid, stop, postpone, delay, keep, consider, discuss, mention, suggest. Jane does not enjoy cooking. Joe quit/gave up smoking.

How would I use a Gerund?  As the object of prepositions (about, of, for, from, in, of, to). He is excited about playing tennis. Sue is in charge of organizing the meeting. I am interested in learning more about your work. I am accustomed to sleeping with the window open.
