Explain your personal thoughts about the painting. Handling Materials: style- abstract / realistic use of traditional material. Transparent, child like marks – thinned down. Expressive – brushstrokes – emotive contrasting main portrait and marks on top Visual elements: Colour – monotone = sombre, reflective dark eyes = mysterious Tone – realistic/ facial features = mood highlights = lips shadows = eyes Composition: Focal Point – squiggle – suggests veil in a crude way aggression foreground/ middle ground background – empty, interior – attention on portrait Mood: Facial expression – tight lips/ eyes look tired, face concealed intimate, reflective – link with colour palette Personal thoughts – Intrigued by title and use of oil paint or relationship between artist and sitter
