Kids who are homeless are… 4 times more likely to have developmental delays 2 times more likely to have learning disabilities 2 times more likely to repeat a grade (this is due to absences for repeatedly moving schools) More likely to experience chronic stress and trauma In either fair or poor health conditions twice as often as other children More likely to go through the stress of being separated from their families

Did you know… One in every 45 children in the U.S experience homelessness each year Families with children make up about 36% of the homeless population while unaccompanied minors make up about 7 to 10% 66% of children who are homeless have already either experienced firsthand or have witnessed domestic violence and or alcohol and substance abuse from a family member or guardian

Why should people care? Homelessness, in most cases, is not something most people want to experience or to be experiencing. Most of the time, due to different situations and backgrounds, it is an unavoidable situation. Children who are homeless have just as much right to education as any other child. If a homeless child is able to overcome the challenges of what was past mentioned, then that makes them stronger. This also proves to others that they are not tied down to the title of “homeless” that was given to them and that they can overcome any obstacle.
