Presentation transcript:

This Week:  Being the voice of Jesus – using our voice to be helpful to others?

Children’s Chat!!  What are the parts of the body of Jesus that we have talked about so far in this series?  What are we talking about today?  How would life be different if you could not talk? Or if no one could speak?  Is everyone’s voice the same or different?  Who said that?  Can you feel where your voice comes from? – Look at the picture.

Using Your Voice For Ministry  The balloon works like your throat.  Change your voice with helium!  What is ministry? How did Jesus use his voice to help others?  How can your voice help you help others?

Our Purpose…  Our purpose is to follow Christ as His disciples and ministry is a part of that journey.

Jesus’ Speech: 1) Jesus’ speech was helpful to people. 2) Jesus spoke to draw attention to sin. 3) Jesus’ speech was grounded in the word. 4) Jesus’ speech was controlled.

John 4:4-26 Page 1651  Vs 10… "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

John 4:26  Then Jesus declared, “I who speak to you am he.”  Jesus used his voice to help her.

Jesus’ Speech Drew Attention to Sin  Matthew 5:21-22 Page  The whole Sermon on the Mount shows Jesus defining sin.

Matthew 5:21-22 Page 1502  "You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, `Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, `Raca, ' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, `You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.

Jesus Spoke the Word:  MT 4:10 Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: `Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.' "  MT 4:11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

His Speech was Controlled:  Matthew 9:1-8 Page 1508  Which is easier: to say, `Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, `Get up and walk'? 6 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins...."

 Jesus used his voice to help people, heal people, and create the world!  Jesus knew when to challenge people and when to let it go.  He knew when to defend himself and how to get to the heart of the matter.

Learn from James 3:1-12 Ephesians 4:29 – 5:4 Page 1822  Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths,, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
