Everybody, stand up!

As fast as you can, organize yourselves from tallest to shortest!

As fast as you can, organize yourselves by hair length!

As fast as you can, organize yourselves by shoe size without talking!

As fast as you can, organize yourselves by birthday (month and day) without talking!

What type of data is it? There are two kinds of data that we will look at in this class: Qualitative Data and Quantitative Data

Qualitative Data Qualitative = Quality (group) Data is organized by descriptions like color, texture, smell, taste, appearance and beauty. Data can be observed, but not measured.

Quantitative Data Quantitative = Quantity (amount or number) Data deals with numbers and can be measured. Types of this data include length, height, area, volume, weight, speed, time, cost and age.

QualitativeQuantitative Example: A Painting

Your Turn! Quantitative or Qualitative? Number of students in a class who turn in a project before it is due Gender of the next baby born at a hospital Amount of fluid ounces dispersed by a soda machine Thickness of the gelatin coating on a pill Birth order (oldest, middle, youngest) of a student
