Presentation transcript:

Is not  All technology all the time.  Making technology an event.  Teacher as the only expert.  Using technology primarily for review and practice. Is  Using technology as a tool across the curriculum for learning and creating.  Increasing engagement through the use of technology.  Teacher as learner.  Connecting to the outside world: share, connect, collaborate, collective action.  Doing some familiar tasks in a new way.

 We need to explore and become comfortable in the digital world.  We need to take risks—it might flop sometimes. That’s OK!  We need to consider doing familiar tasks in a new way, which will increase student engagement and meet multiple learning needs simultaneously.  We need to see a new tool and think, how can I weave that in.  We need to coach children to be comfortable and safe in a digital world.

Children need to…  Learn how to learn  Learn how to think  Learn how to adapt  Learn how to communicate to various people in various ways.  Learn in ways that interest them.  Learn the new literacy skills associated with the digital age

 There is an Illinois mandate to teach Internet safety. Some of this will come from the tech. teams who are working on it. Teachers need to be involved.  We cannot do this theoretically. Coaching has to come from authentic experience.  Get out there on the web and try something new.
