9/23/2008Castellino, Hilton, Park2 Overview Total of 6 hours of observation Emory University Hospital Wednesday Sept. 17 ~ 5:30 pm Emory Crawford Long Hospital Thursday Sept. 18 ~ noon

9/23/2008Castellino, Hilton, Park3 Issue 1: Patient Expectation & Wait Time

9/23/2008Castellino, Hilton, Park4 Issue 2: Patient Privacy At EUH, initial triage was done by a nurse in the waiting room. The patient gave his/her health complaints to this nurse. The complete medical history and medications used was done by a second triage nurse in private. At EUH, there were 3-5 occupied patient beds in the hallway. Doctors and nurses talked to and treated these patients while in the hallway. At ECL, Patient’s name was called out to find them in the waiting room. At ECL, Friends and family members could find patient’s room number by giving the patient’s name to the registration nurse. One time, the name was repeated loudly three times in order for the nurse to understand.

9/23/2008Castellino, Hilton, Park5 Issue 3: ED Relations with the Rest of the Hospital At EUH, labs were ordered from triage. At EUH, phone calls were returned from other units; they often did not know whose page they were returning.

9/23/2008Castellino, Hilton, Park6 Questions?
