What is Causing Global Warming?

Industrialization

Smog

Greenhouse Greenhouse Gasses

Some sunlight hits the earth and is reflected. Some becomes heat CO2 and other gasses in the atmosphere trap heat. This makes the earth warmer.

Pronunciation Practice Chlorofluorocarbons

Vocabulary Climate: A word for weather, rainfall, hot/coldness and seasons. Climate Change: When any of those things changes in a certain place for a long period of time Global Warming: A type of climate change where the earth gets warmer Ice age: A type of climate change where the earth gets colder Polar ice caps: Very large chunks of ice at the North and South poles of the earth. Smog: synonyms include: smoke, fumes, air pollution The Greenhouse Effect: The process of gasses holding warmth around the earth and making the earth warmer. Industrial Revolution: The period in history when people started using machines and factories to make things. Extreme weather vocabulary: Flood: too much water. Drought: not enough rain or water. Polar Vortex: very cold for several weeks. Heat Wave: very hot for several weeks. Hurricane: the same as a cyclone, it is a big storm with lots of wind and water. It only happens on America’s East coast and the Caribbean.

Reading activity How did the rainfall change during the time of Chingis Khan? How did the change help him capture more territory? How do scientists today measure rainfall from the thirteenth century? What did the measurements say about the Mongolian climate in the 20 th century? What was the prediction about the climate in Mongolia in the future?

Essay What do you think the Mongolian government should do to address climate change and why?
