GLOBAL NUTRITION CLUSTER FACE-TO-FACE MEETING 24 th to 25 th of Jan 2013 Geneva Introduction and objective of the meeting

OBJECTIVE To clarify the tangible priority activities to be undertaken by GNC in 2013 and respective member responsibility for implementation

Final presentation from July meeting Role of GNC What are the core functions of the GNC (that we need to focus on and fund)? What is the GNCs role in technical issues, should the focus be coordination or technical? Leadership of technical issues? What should really be included in the GNC role? Who are we talking about - GNC CT or GNC partners? Advocacy? Coordination? Operational support?

Role of GNC (continued) ENN proposed NiE meeting in Nov 2013 to provide space for many of tech issues currently loaded onto GNC, but what to do in the interim? Plan for long-term? What is CLA’s (UNICEF) role in nutrition, particularly preparing for nutrition emergencies (before cluster is activated)

Human Resources Need to make a concrete, viable plan/proposal to get RRT for nutrition and get it funded (Interested donors… ????) How to recruit experienced Nut Cluster Coordinators for next emergency and to manage turnover? What about Info Management staff – where are they, do we need more, what’s the plan? What is minimum staff structure at country level for nut cluster – agreed and advocated for?

Capacity development Need to document (via matrix?) all relevant nutrition trainings going on, purpose etc Need to consolidate all adapted training materials and lessons learned – some will be posted on GNC website (when?) Need a training plan – at what levels (global, country, etc), who, types, and which should GNC lead vs. other actors or country Who will pilot NiE competency framework and feedback within xx months? Capacity Building Strategy – review it – who?

Assessment/Information/Knowledge Management Incorporating Nut checklist in MIRA – timeframe?

IYCF - E Who leads on IYCF in emergencies? IYCF standardized questions in SMART and other assessments? Who??? 5 key points coming from workshop

Other technical issues Support on guidelines and other technical issues - how to systematically handle these identified needs?

Intercluster gFSC – survey monkey, what next after results? Other clusters – Health, WASH – starting similar dialogue – when and what???

Other Issues The roles of the GNC in coordination and dissemination of supply related issue How should issues related to supplies be handled?

Next Steps Review the work plan, consult with partners who have signed up to take the responsibility of implementation and fundraising activities Costing of the WP and sharing with all partners Hanging issues to be turned into action points
