What have you asked for this Christmas?

You may be surprised to know it, but you may have asked for similar things to someone in rural Africa…

You may want a bike

People in Africa may want a bike too A bike allows the people to take their produce to market, without having to carry it themselves.

You may want a torch

People in Africa may want a solar lantern This allows them to see when it gets dark, even when they have no electricity, so that they can carry on working.

You may want a pet

People in Africa may want a Chicken Chickens are easy to look after and provide up to 200 eggs a year – a vital source of protein and income

Have you heard of Send a Cow?

Send a Cow is a charity that works in 7 countries in Africa. They strive to give communities and families the hope and the means to secure their own futures from the land. Often people who have lived on less than £1 a day for years do not believe their lives can change. Send a Cow works closely with these people, giving them hope so that they can succeed.

Where do they work? Ethiopia Kenya Zambia Lesotho Burundi Rwanda Uganda

What do they do? Working hand in hand with poor farming families in Africa, they equip people with the knowledge, skills and importantly self-belief to transform their own lives. They provide livestock and training in sustainable farming practices alongside courses in gender equality, conflict resolution and more. Not only does it work, but families pass on the package to others.

This Christmas, Send a Cow has a Christmas catalogue, including a list of all the things you could buy for an African family. And up to 31 st December 2015, every gift you buy will be doubled by the UK government. Have a look at the full list of gifts at:
