WORD FORMATION PROCESS The process whereby new words are formed is called WFP

Borrowing It’s the taking over of words from other languages English language has adopted a vast number of loan-words from other languages e.g;alcohol(Arabic) ,boss(dutch) ,piano(Italian),yogurt(Turkish),tycoon (Japanese)

Conversion A change in the function of a word that is, when a noun comes to be used as a verb without any reduction is called conversion. For instance; paper that is noun is used as a verb in the following sentence. “He was papering the bedroom walls "or butter “Have you buttered the toast?”

Coinage It’s invention of totally new terms. The most typical sources are invented trade names for one company’s product which become general terms for any version of that product e.g;aspirin,nylon and zipper or teflon etc
