2 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES Beamline Development Beamline Access Teams (BATs) Facility receives funding to design, construct, and operate beamlines. Beamline Development Teams (BDTs) User group receives funding to design, construct, and operate beamline. Two principal modes : User groups would form and work with the facility to define the scientific mission and technical requirements for the beamline

3 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES Modes of Access General Users (GUs) Users apply for time on facility or non-facility beamlines. Proposals can be one time (one cycle) or two year (program). Provision also for rapid access on certain beamlines (reviewed after the fact). Contributing Users (CUs) Individuals or groups who carry out research at NSLSII Facility Beamlines and also enhance beamline capabilities and/or contribute to their operation. 8 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES NSLS-II Beamlines 15 five m straights for user undulators Could potentially drive up to 30 beamlines by canting two undulators 4 eight m straights for user undulators Could potentially drive up to 12 beamlines by canting three undulators 8 eight m straights for user damping wigglers Could potentially drive up to 24 beamlines by canting three DWs 20 BM ports for UV and soft X-rays 10 BM ports for IR 5 large aperture for far-IR 5 regular aperture for mid/near-IR At least 57 beamlines Many more w/ maximum IDs per straight (plus possible multiple hutches per beamline)
