Overview 1 Small Sided Games 2 Calendar Year Registration

Small Sided Games The required rule changes have been made at North Texas Soccer. These changes are effective 9-1-2016 as recommendations beginning fall 2016, and mandated beginning fall 2017.

Objectives From U.S. Soccer: Develop skills on the ball Increase number of touches and control Improve confidence Develop intelligence Promote faster decisions and better awareness Develop partnerships within the team Provide age appropriate environment

Standards Chart U6 U7 U8 U9 U10 U11 U12 U13 Max. Field Size (yards) # of Players 4v4 7v7 9v9 11v11 Goalkeeper? No Yes Playing Times 4x8 min. 3x15 min. 2x25 min. 2x30 min. 2x35 min. Field Overview Mini Field - 30x20 yards U6, U7 & U8 - 4v4 Players at this age need to develop basic motor skills such as walking, running and changing direction. A smaller space will help them to develop these skills while also providing more interaction with the ball, teammates and opponents. Development Field - 47x30 yards U9 & U10 - 7v7 Players at this age need to develop speed and agility. For this reason we promote play on a bigger field. Players will have more space to move in control of the ball and face 1v1 situations against an opponent in different parts of the field. Small Sided Field - 75x47 yards U11 & U12 - 9v9 Players at this age need to develop coordination, balance and visual awareness. Increasing the number of players requires faster decision making so players can develop partnerships and game intelligence. Information courtesy of U.S. Soccer

U9 | U10 Build Out Line Used to promote playing the ball out of the back in an no pressure setting. When the goalkeeper has the ball, either during play or from a goal kick, the opposing team must move behind the build out line. The goalkeeper may then pass, throw or roll the ball to a teammate (no punting). Once the ball is in play, the opposing team may cross the build out line and play resumes. Implementation Rule changes passed by North Texas Soccer require that Member Associations adopt the new Small Sided Games. The changes are recommended to begin in the fall 2016 season, and are mandated to begin the fall 2017 season. It is understood that it may take some time to work with parks departments to adjust fields and goals to appropriate sizes.

Calendar Year Registration The required rule changes have been made at North Texas Soccer. The changes to calendar year birthdates for registration, and the corresponding age groupings are effective 9-1-2016 as required beginning for the fall 2016.

Objectives From U.S. Soccer: Alignment with the international age groups Combat relative age effect A selection bias towards players born earlier in the year because they are more physically mature than their peers A balance of players born throughout the year is recommended Allows for continued development of players who have yet to mature physically
