Presentation transcript:

Manganese has a silvery metallic color. “Magnes,” meaning magnet, comes from Manganese. Manganese isn’t always magnetic but can sometimes be. Manganese is hard and brittle.

The state of Manganese is solid at 298 K(25 degrees Celsius.) Manganese has thermal, electrical, and polarizability conductivity. Manganese is a metal.

Manganese has a cubic crystalline structure.

Symbol: Mn Atomic number: 25 Atomic weight: Number of protons: 25 Electrons: 25 Neutrons: 30

Block: d-block Period: 4 Group: 7 Electron Configuration: [Ar] 4s 2 3d 5

Manganese is used in: 1) Steel making 2) Aluminum and Antimony 3) Small amounts of Copper 4) Manganese is used in the making of unleaded gas.

1) preparing oxygen, chlorine, and in drying black paints 2) It is used in the utilisation of vitamin B(1)

1) It’s a powerful oxidizing agent in quantitative analysis and in medicine. 2) Used in steel, batteries, axles, rail switches, safes, plows and ceramics.

Manganese is found as a free element in nature. Manganese is also found in many minerals. Manganese is found in the Universe, the sun, Meteorite, Crustal rocks, sea water, streams and humans.

*Chemical Properties: It dissolves in most acids with the release of hydrogen gas. At higher temperatures, it reacts more rapidly. It may even burn, giving off a bright white light.

*Reactivity: Manganese has a reactivity to water, halogens, acids, and with bases. *Oxidation States: The oxidation states of Manganese are +2, +3, +4, +6 and +7.

1) The name Manganese originates from a Latin word “Mangnes” meaning magnet. 2) Manganese is classified as a “Transition Medal.”

1) The element is ductile, malleable, and is able to conduct electricity and heat. 2) Two minerals that contain Manganese are rhodonite and rhodocrosite. They are used in stones in jewelry and they are pink. 3) h 7WsHw
