Introduction to Engineering Introduction to 2-D CAD Reference – CADKEY Project Book Chapter 3 – Creating Basic 2-D Geometry

Agenda Create basic 2-D shapes – circles, lines, rectangles Edit lines and arcs Change display scale

Saving CAD files Seed Drawing – blank drawing that saves all the default values you want set – used to start new drawing or refresh values PART file - CADKEY drawing files are called PART files (Save [to store] and Open [to retrieve]).PRT extension PATTERN file – a file that can be added to a current drawing without disturbing what is currently in the work area (Export [to store] and Import [to retrieve]).PTN extension

Preview of Concepts Introduced in Chapter 3 – Very Basic 2-D CAD Creating circles, lines and rectangles Editing lines and arcs Saving and printing drawings

Follow Chapter 3 – Print FERD TRUCK with Title Block

Summary Created circles – using center and diameter; Other methods to draw circles – explore! Copied entities; Other Xform tools available – explore! Created a string of lines Edited Entities – Trimming Tool; Other forms of trimming available – explore! Concepts of levels and Level List dialog box

Assignment #23: Create the 2-D Pick-up truck shown on page 71 of the CADKEY book. Put your title block around it. Provide a printout of your drawing and include all necessary information in the title block.

For More Practice If you would like more practice, there are practice drawings available at the end of Chapter 3 of the CADKEY Project Book
