5. Note on creating fillets or rounds
Create a rectangle using
Lines option
Polylines option
Use fillets to round the corners – observe the difference.
It should be noted that in
Case 1, where the “Create a rectangle of lines” option is used, the rectangle is created with four separate entities – lines. Hence fillets can be used to create the rounded corners
Case2, where the “Create a rectangle of polylines” option is used, the rectangle is created with a single polyline, where polyline is a connected sequence of lines treated as a single object. Hence the fillet cannot round the corner.
This can be observed in DWG17 – the top view of the bearing block which has rounded corners was created using parallel lines (separate entities) and not a polyline option. This is a very subtle concept, but most often, when students start building objects on their own, they would face the problem of not being able to create fillets on polylines. (noticed during examinations)
