SIGBED Viability Review Marilyn Wolf, Chair SGB Meeting, September 20, 2010, New York

Financial Goals and Successes Goals: Higher membership. 500K embedded programmers worldwide. More student members to build long-term community. Invest in the community Successes: Sound financial condition. Support major conferences in field.

Membership/Volunteer Development Membership – currently 503 Reducing student dues to $6 for year retention 79.55% Volunteer development through SIG elections, conferences Should concentrate on advanced professionals but still a large group. How do we serve this constituency? Future of SIGBED Review?

Community Development Strong workshop and tutorial culture and conferences. CPS Week is a welcome development. Would like a dissertation award to raise profile. Stronger links to advanced industry---shows career path. More embedded terms in classification system (IEEE has same problem).

Diversity Nominated someone for ACM Athena Award (didn’t succeed). Diversity workshop at ESWeek 10.
