PacWave13 – Date and Purpose Exercise Web Site: IOC Circular Letter 2481 issued 28 March 2013 –15 April 2013: PTWC Start Issuance of Enhanced Products in experimental mode –1-14 May 2013: PTWS Exercise Pacific Wave “PacWave 13” Exercise Purpose: The aim of PacWave13 is to validate the understanding and use of the PTWC Enhanced Products

PacWave13 – Objectives 1.Evaluate the format and content of the PTWC Enhanced Products for each scenario exercised 2.Provide feedback that a country is prepared to officially receive and implement and utilize the PTWC Enhanced Products 3.Provide feedback that a country’s stakeholder agencies will be informed on the PTWC Enhanced Products so as to make appropriate future changes to their Standard Operating Procedures.

PacWave13 – 3 Scenarios –Off Northern Japan (Japan Trench) –Off Western Philippines (Manila Trench) –Off Northern Chile (Peru-Chile Trench)

PacWave13 – Conduct Exercise Date: –Schedule anytime during May, preferable 1-14 May 2013 to allow time to complete Post-Exercise Evaluation Form Exercise Type and Participants – Recommend: –Tabletop Exercise –Minimum participation should be National Tsunami Warning Center National Disaster Management Office Each Country should exercise 1 Tsunami Scenario (can exercise as local, regional, or distant response) International TWC Messages (on web site) –PTWC (new), JMA NWPTAC (existing)

PacWave13 – PTWC New Products Users Guide to PTWC Enhanced Products for PTWS (IOC TS105) Text: - Message (improved readability, format) - Forecast Polygon Tables Graphical: –Forecast Polygon map (threat by country) –Energy Forecast map (offhore, deep ocean forecast, shows energy directivity) –Coastal Forecast map (onshore at forecast points) –Coastal Forecast KMZ file (onshore at forecast points, display in Google Earth)
