5. Organization  Training / continuing education is generally associated with the human resources department, the responsibility has a senior staff member.  Enterprise Business - e.g. Audi, VW, banks, savings banks - have partially outsourced training companies in own academies. The management of these academies and remuneration of staff is outside the collective agreement. AIF International Meeting on Learning 6

6. Management & Leadership Since the early 90's, management concepts are increasingly spreading such as Reengineering - Chaos Management – Sustainability - Corporate Governance - Strategic business - Shareholder Value and Value Based Management - Balanced Scorecard - Change Management - Learning organizations They have professionalized companies. Is there a significant difference between the public and the private sector? There is no difference. The private company is a model for the modern public sector “same output with less money” AIF International Meeting on Learning 7

8. Rules and Regulations  Germany has 16 states. Each state has its own continuing education law. Their content and text are not standardized. The focus of the federal education laws is  Everybody must have the chance to participate in continuing education/training  Communities and cities have to develop and support a system for continuing education/training.  In this system institutions of continuing education/adult education - must be accessible to all and need to work with all social institutions AIF International Meeting on Learning 9

9. International Networks  The German methods associations belong to their international networks.  Individual members of the training associations are also members of ASTD. AIF International Meeting on Learning 10

10. Future  Germany concentrates on the resource of education and training.  In the future T & D will be more segmented, to reach more specialized target groups.  The focus of training will be derived from EU Guidelines. AIF International Meeting on Learning 11
