Protein synthesis Ribosomes attached to ER make proteins for export out of the cell Ribosomes in the cytoplasm make proteins for use inside the cell – ie enzymes, hormones, etc

Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) Network of membranes and Sacs Internal space (inside the folds) is called the lumen

Endoplasmic Reticulum Rough ER – Studded with ribosomes Site of protein synthesis. Proteins are transported to golgi apparatus via golgi vesicles Smooth ER – Site of Carbohydrate and Lipid Synthesis
