Connect: In 1923 the German suffered an invasion which they were powerless to stop. At the same time hyperinflation destroyed the savings of millions of people. It seemed to be an ideal time for a revolution, but none of the extremist groups managed to seize power. Yet this did not happen, instead Germany entered a period of prosperity that became know as the ‘Golden Age of Weimar’. There were stunning achievements in the arts and sciences and the economy was booming. This was down to Gustav Stresemann who was Chancellor for 100 days in 1923, but he set in motion the plans that created this golden age.
